Calligraphy, the ancient art of beautiful writing, today, it finds its place not only as a form of artistic expression, but as a key element in adding a personal and elegant touch to special events. Focusing on calligraphy on envelopes, we explore how this artistic practice transcends mere aesthetics and becomes an essential service that adds to the uniqueness and personality of your invitations.

Handwritten addresses: the personal touch that counts

In a world where digital communication is the norm, handwritten addresses on envelopes bring a sense of warmth, personality and originality. This approach not only reflects the calligrapher's artistic talent, but also his ability to correctly format addresses, streets and names, ensuring that each invitation is addressed with respect and precision.

Meaning for special occasions

For special events such as weddings, anniversaries and protocol receptions, The calligraphy on the envelopes serves as a first impression for guests. The artistically designed addresses not only reflect the importance of the eventbut also testify to the attention and effort that went into organising it. Going beyond normal standards and create an unforgettable experience from the moment you open your mailbox.

Variety of styles and flexibility

Acceptance of calligraphy as a service enables unlimited possibilities for personalisation. Different calligraphic styles, from traditional to modern, allow the envelopes to be adapt to the theme and tone of the event. Whether it's classic elegance with the Copperplate font or a more relaxed and modern approach, a calligrapher can realise the client's vision.

Adapting to global and local trends

The calligraphy on the envelopes is also adapted to geographical specificities and trends. In the USA, it is popular middle settlement of titleswhich allows room for creative decoration, while in some European countries the left alignment prevails, with the title at the bottom right of the envelope. In Slovenia, where calligraphy on envelopes is still a relatively new practice, calligraphers often experiment with rules to make invitations stand out and give the impression of uniqueness.

Calligraphy: more than just an art

Calligraphy on envelopes is not just a question of aesthetics; is a service that takes time, patience and precision. Each handwritten title reflects the calligrapher's attention to detail and desire to create unique products that bear a personal stamp. In this context price of calligraphy reflects not only the artistic value, but also the complexity and time complexity of the service. We not only take into account the writing, but also help you to ensure that the names of your invitees are spelled correctly, check that roads and streets are spelled correctly, and place each address on the envelope to perfection.

A final thought

Calligraphy on envelopes is more than just an addendum to the invitation; is a symbol of thoughtfulness, uniqueness and personal connection. In an age where digital communications have taken over, calligraphic addresses are once again evoking the magic of handwriting and bring a touch of humanity and warmth to our relationships with each other. Calligraphers offer not only a service, but a piece of art that enriches life's special moments.

What are the possibilities for personalisation with live calligraphy?

  • Bottles: Calligraphic engraving, accentuated with gold or silver, except on sparkling wines, where special colours are used for safety reasons.
  • Perfumes and cosmetics: Personal messages on the bottles add a touch of luxury and intimacy.
  • Christmas balls: Personalise with names or special greetings for a unique festive decoration.
  • Stationery with your logo: Greeting cards and name cards that say more to the recipient.
  • Metal plates or pendants: An ideal memento of an event or a practical gift with a personal touch. A brass plaque is very suitable, but must be lacquered. Inox is too hard for hand calligraphy engraving.

Live product personalisation - with engraved calligraphy

How is live product personalisation done?

We take centre stage, whether in your store or at a special event, to create a stylish corner for calligraphic personalisation. I write or engrave calligraphy on various materials.

Do you need to test the material or product?

Yes, any material to be engraved on at the event itself needs to be tested, because that's the only way I can ensure smooth personalisation in front of my customers. I would like to receive the products 10 days before the event, as it often requires the preparation of special live personalisation aids. Therefore, it is necessary to provide additional pieces for testing. I recommend that you involve me in the selection process at the time you are deciding on the personalisation product and the material it will be made of.

Is calligraphy engraving noisy?

The engraver is quiet because it is a table-top appliance, which makes less noise than an electric toothbrush. Only the contact of the drill bit with the substrate makes a sound. There is slightly less noise when it comes into contact with glass than when it comes into contact with metal such as brass. But it is still a noise that drowns out all conversation and activity in the room.

Can you engrave in a bar where it's dark?

No. I need good light for engraving or writing, and often, because of the small size of the products, a magnifying glass to provide a really good service. That's why I have my own table lamp with a magnifying glass for this purpose, if your event ambience is dark.

How much space do you need for personalisation?

I need a normal office desk approx. 70 cm high and at least 90 cm wide, for the neat arrangement of materials and ancillary materials. It's great if the table also has an extra shelf where you can prepare your products to be engraved or enhanced with calligraphy.

Do you need help from our staff for your presonalisation?

Help is welcome to interact with customers and, in the case of engraving on products already purchased, almost essential to ensure that the products already purchased are tracked and that the right inscription for the specific product is used.

How many products can you make in one hour?

When engraving and writing calligraphy in person, we limit ourselves to three or four words. You can even just name it. This way we can personalise up to 40 products per hour. For certain holidays, you can also choose a shorter slogan for your company to speed up personalisation. This way, I don't stay too long with one customer, but everything goes faster and is more attractive for the customers. In case the customer wants a different personalisation on site, the rest of the orders and customers are waiting. Therefore, I suggest that it is clearly marked at the event what kind of personalisation it is, set limits and make proposals clear.

If the product needs to be personalised, or if something needs to be glued, fixed, wrapped, it is better to use your additional staff to do this, so that the time for engraving can be optimally used without additional procedures to complete the personalisation.

Customers can also book a personalisation. This way, personalisation is prepared in advance for these clients, which is a great option for events where you are preparing gifts for all participants (goodie bag).

Are there any restrictions on materials?

I don't engrave on bottles under pressure:

Very rarely, but never in person, as the bottle can break and cause damage. I engrave pressure bottles to order and very carefully "single-line", in one stroke. I do not exaggerate the lines of the text to imitate the stroke of a calligraphic pen, which, because of its shape and its characteristic use, creates a broad vertical stroke. Hand engraving is also slightly deeper than laser. Engraving therefore interferes with the surface of the bottle and can change its physical properties. However, the bottles engraved so far have all survived the engraving and a few hours in the car.

Plastics

Plastic is a bit more difficult to engrave, so we test the product beforehand, depending on its composition and hardness.

  • Toxins: Many plastics burn when engraved, releasing toxic gases that can be harmful. These gases may contain carcinogenic or otherwise harmful chemicals that pose a health risk if inhaled.
  • Quality of the final product: some plastics can melt, curl or discolour due to friction during engraving, resulting in a poor quality final product that does not meet the standards of high-quality personalisation.

Engraving on wood

Not all wood is suitable for pyrography or engraving. The most suitable woods for pyrography are: willow, lime, beech, aspen, maple, cherry, poplar, birch and walnut. Spruce and similar soft woods are not suitable as the seasons are too pronounced, the tool is excessively indented in the soft part and the trace is not visible on the harder and darker part.

They absorb a lot of resins and oils, causing smoking.

  • Pyrography, the burning of wood, is definitely preferable for wood, but it produces smoke and is therefore not suitable for use in front of clients.
  • Smoke: burning wood produces smoke which is very disturbing in a sales environment. Smoke can also deposit soot on machinery and surrounding surfaces, requiring frequent cleaning and maintenance.
  • Smell: The pyrography process produces a strong smell. Although some people may find the smell of certain woods pleasant, it may be too strong or undesirable in a confined space or at a crowded event.
  • Variable quality: wood is a natural material with different densities, moisture contents and grain patterns, which can affect the consistency of the engraving. This variability causes the wood to chip when engraved and the strokes do not have clean lines. It is not possible to colour the finished text as is possible on glass.

February takes us through a diverse range of celebrations each year. From the traditional Carnival, or "Fashenk" as we call it in Ptuj, where my childhood years brought back vivid memories of carnival antics, to the deep-rooted Prešeren's Day and the increasingly popular Valentine's Day, each holiday has its own special features.

Prešeren Day: calligraphy as a reflection of culture and peace.

8 February - Prešeren Day - cultural holiday

8 February - Prešeren Day - cultural holiday

On Prešeren Day, which celebrates our great poet, František Prešeren, I decided to do a special project this year. A calligraphic record of the seventh stanza of Prešeren's "Salutations" is not only a work of art, but also a quest for authenticity and peace. This anthem, unique in its call for peace rather than struggle, symbolises values that are all too often overlooked in today's world. By writing the "Hail Mary" I want to convey that peace, authenticity and culture are what really enrich us.

I am looking forward to combining different arts. I take the words of a famous Slovenian poet, which have become a national symbol, into the world of calligraphy, where emotions are poured onto paper through ink and end their calligraphic journey on an everyday object such as a cup of coffee. And here we are with Ivan Cankar.

Carnival: From masquerade to the search for authenticity.

Carnival 2024

In my childhood, spent in the heart of the carnival town of Ptuj, I looked forward to the carnival with great excitement and fear at the same time. Masquerading and taking on different characters was an immense source of joy for me, but at the same time, as a child, they also brought me a little fear, as the big Benefits accompanied by the Red Devil, scaring the children.  Carnival time was like a magical land where I could become someone else for a few moments. But as the years accumulate, one starts to look for different values.

Life presents us with many challenges where we often have to wear different masks - at work, at home, in society. Over time, I realised that I was looking for something more authentic, something that reflected the real me, not just the roles I play in everyday life. Carnival gave me the opportunity to become someone else for a while, but now I just want to be me - authentic, without the masks that society too often imposes on us. I didn't even think when I moved from Ptuj to Cerknica that I would be back in the centre of the carnival action.

Carnival trivia: It comes from the word "carnival" - to leave the meat. It is the word for "carnival", which means "to eat meat". For many, this day is important because it begins their 40-day Lenten vows.

Valentine's Day: the key to the roots or the key to the heart?

Valentine's Day, also known as St Valentine's Day, is celebrated on 14 February.

Valentine's Day, also known as St Valentine's Day, is celebrated 14 February. This day, which has its origins in the Christian veneration of St Valentine the Martyr, has become world-renowned as a feast of love and romance, combining cultural, religious and commercial aspects. "Valentine holds the key to the roots" is an old Slovenian proverb that symbolically marks the beginning of spring and the awakening of nature.

Christmas balls with a name - How do I make them?

I'll show you how to make personalised Christmas balls. As the light of the festive lights reflects off the surface of the Christmas balls, our homes reflect warmth and joy. These tiny decorations, hung each year on the branches of evergreen trees, are more than just decoration. They are a symbol of tradition, family and the festive spirit that runs through the generations.

Christmas ball with a name

Christmas ball with the name Buckwheat - a calligraphically created inscription.

History of glass heritage

Christmas balls as we know them today, have their roots in the small German town of Lauscha in the 19th century, known for its glassmaking crafts. At first, Christmas decorations were made from a variety of materials, including paper and apples. Then glass took the lead. The first glass beads were shaped by Lauscha artists to imitate the shape of fruit and nuts, and gradually developed into the varied shapes and sizes that adorn today's Christmas trees.

Over time, the tradition of decorating Christmas trees has spread around the world, with materials and adapting the shapes of Christmas balls to different cultures and trends. Today, Christmas balls are available in many materials, such as plastics, metal, glass and even natural fibres such as paper, eggshells, ceramics or yarn.

Handicraft techniques that bring Christmas balls to life

In the world of Christmas bead decorating, each technique is its own story. For me it is calligraphy the right way to personalise Christmas balls, with its elegant touches that bring something special and different. This ancient art of writing, which we practise differently with ink can be created on the beads in a variety of ways, giving the writing a wonderful variety of effects and breathing life and beauty into the words.

I sometimes decorate Christmas balls by writing directly on the ball with a chrome marker, which leaves a beautiful trace with its golden shimmering colour. Another time, its I digitise calligraphy and then I do a foil inscription. Thus, despite the use of digital tools, the inscription completely unique. I also like paper circlesto replace plastic and glass Christmas beads, so I can use them to make beautiful place settings or to decorate presents.

How do I create a Christmas ball inscription?

  • Warming up the fingers and hands: for a perfect inscription, I warm up the fingers, hands and arms first. I do some calligraphy exercises with a pencil to get my hands ready for precise work.
  • Preparing the font: I draw different drafts of the lettering on tracing paper with a pencil, then line the bottom with Copperplate. I play around with different versions of the first letter, which can be decorated very nicely.

  • Digitisation: I then digitise the calligraphic record.
  • Cutting the foil: To create a foil sticker, I have to be careful to create slightly wider strokes than on paper, otherwise the foil is too thin and difficult to apply to the bead.
  • Sticking the inscription on the glass bead: I precisely glue the cut-out inscription on the bead.
  • Decorative ribbon: I add a decorative ribbon to the Christmas ball with the name and the gift is ready.

Engraving on glass is another trendy method that, with its fine precision and durability, creates beautiful personalisationssparkling under the festive lights. I use calligraphic engraving to create personalisations on bottles or perfume. So I turn standard gifts into personalised and uniquedesigned specifically for your loved ones who  carry a message permanently engraved on them. Such a gift can become a precious memoryI engrave entirely by hand and according to the laws of Calligraphy. Different techniques for decorating Christmas balls

Different techniques result in different dimensions of ornaments. Whether the subtlety chosen is Calligraphy, elegance engravings, colourfulness painting, traditionalism Crochet or uniqueness ceramics, each decorating method adds a unique touch that gives the Christmas tree personality and charm. Through these artistic forms a simple bead is transformed into a precious memory, that reflects the soul of its creator and tells the story of those who admire it.

  • Ceramic Christmas decoration: You can choose Christmas decorations made of ceramics. They are made with a great deal of artistic flair, which gives them a special value and beauty.
  • Crocheted balls, handmade from yarn or other natural materials. Crochet beads are also a way of preserving traditional handicraft techniques and provide a unique touch to festive décor.

The aesthetic evolution of the Christmas ball: from traditional to trendy

Christmas ball decorating trends have changed continuously over the decades. Colour palette has expanded from classic red and gold tones to modern neon and pastel shades. The design has become bolder and more personal. Beads today reflect hobbies, professions and important life events. Personalisation has become essential, with calligraphic engravings of names or important dates preserving the memory of significant family d

The Christmas ball as a gift: a symbol of love and belonging

At the time of the gift just a click away, remain Christmas balls a popular choice for showing affection. With their ability to capture a personal note, these beads go beyond material value and become valuable souvenirs. As gifts, they bring a piece of shared history, shaped by with love and attention.

Finding the balance between consumerism and the festive spirit

While the festive season is often equated with Consumer, it is important to remember that the most precious things in life are priceless. Christmas balls can be a reminder that true value is found in shared moments and lasting bonds, not in the price of gifts. At a time when it seems that everything can be bought, these small works of art remind us that the real charm of the holidays is the warmth and in the time we share with our loved ones.

Christmas decorations - how to personalise them

A home decorated for Christmas. Modest or lavish. It's important to share the beautiful moments with those we love most.

Values that glow longer than the festive season

Christmas balls are more than just decorations; they are a reflection of our lives, hopes and dreams. They are an invitation to rediscover the joy of simplicity, the importance of family and friends and to cherish the quiet moments in this fast-paced world. Let every bead we hang be a reminder that sometimes the smallest things bring the greatest happiness.

The durability or transience of Christmas decorations

At a time when consumer culture seems to encourage the constant accumulation of new things, the question arises: Is it worth having "junk" for a few days of festive idyll? The fast modern pace symbolised the festive days with a new holiday. Synonymous with excessive consumerism has become Black Friday. It encourages the waste of money not yet earned, while small businesses find it hard to follow the trend. Buying a gift from a small local business preserves their existence, prioritising community and the strength of the local economy over the personal enrichment of individuals at the top of the corporate pyramid.

Tradition teaches us that not all things are disposable. At least it used to be. Christmas balls were often carriers of heritagethat go beyond their decorative function.

I remember how my mother used to keep the glass Christmas balls with special care. Every year, when the holidays came knocking at the door, we would pull out these precious ornaments from the cellar, which carried stories of Christmases past. In those days, we kept things, cherished them and gave them the chance to return to our festive trees year after year. They weren't just beads; they were memories of quiet evenings and very modest gifts. A book and some oranges. Over the years, I just realised that they were precious. Yet it was this apparent frugality with gifts and the festive table that gave space for hugs and time together. At that time, we only had three TV channels and digitalisation was not taking our attention.

We didn't compete with trends we didn't even buy new beads every year to match the latest home décor or the fashion trends in our clothes. These beads were a testament to that, that true values are not what you have, but who you spend that time with.

Magical and timeless calligraphy is useful at every turn, especially on occasions that call for something romantic or unique. The first touch of paper with a calligraphic pen requires some simple but necessary preparation.

Free trial for those of you who want to test whether you are the real deal. You can do the first exercises with a pencil (I recommend a softer one like B2.

Magical and timeless, calligraphy is useful at every turn

Calligraphy is an art that brings aesthetics and meaning to everyday life, especially on occasions that call for something romantic or unique. The first touch of paper with a calligraphy pen requires some simple but necessary preparation. Calligraphy courses are therefore a wonderful way to approach this art. You can also do it as a self-taught artist. True, the path may be steeper, but you may appreciate more every little thing you learn.

How do we learn calligraphy?

Calligraphic writing can be complemented with many other pictorial and creative techniques. As we master the strokes of the different scripts, our enthusiasm and thus our desire to combine calligraphy with other skills will grow in parallel. At the same time, we will want to try out many other materials besides pen and ink for our creations to impress those closest to us.

Calligraphy

Copperplate exercises with pencil.

Calligraphy pen

Calligraphy is not only about letters, but also about the science of materials. That authentic feeling when the pen glides across the paper is priceless. But it takes the right combination of paper, pen and ink to achieve that feeling. Calligraphy pens of different sizes and shapes can be used. From goose nibs, bamboo nibs and metal nibs for which we need a holder.

Dip the pen and the holder into ink or other paint mixtures such as watercolour, gouache or acrylic. Instead of dipping them, ink can also be applied with a brush. Ink pens are also available in specialist shops calligraphy fountain pens using ink cartridges. I do not recommend learning with a fountain pen for serious calligraphy. The choice of pen and nib depends on the script to be learnt.

Calligraphy grips and pens - calligraphy

Double-width nibs for scripts such as Carolingian minuscule, Uncial, Italic and Gothic

Preparing the calligraphy pen

Calligraphy pen must be prepared before writing, as the metal treatment itself makes it slightly oily. Here I swear by saliva. Saliva does a very good job of removing this grease, but please, a pen is not a sweet. So don't put the pen in your mouth, rather put the saliva on a paper towel and dip the pen in it and gently scrub it. You can dip the pen in the paint and wipe off the first coat, then dip it in the paint again.

Some calligraphers expose the pen to the fire of a lighter for a few seconds and then dip it in cold water, which is not suitable for delicate pointed pens. Others stick it in potatoes for a few minutes, others wash it with soap or toothpaste. Of course, you can clean the nib with solutions available in calligraphy shops. However, I would advise beginners not to rush out and buy every possible accessory, because they are not that necessary.

Calligraphy

Calligraphic pointed pen

Which calligraphy pen to choose?

Double-width pens

For our first strokes of the two-syllable fonts (uncial, Carolingian minuscule, Italian, Gothic), I suggest choosing a 2 mm or 2,5 mm wide bi-width nib, as this is the only way to see all the details of the strokes that make up each letter. The width of the nibs can vary greatly. From the narrowest, which is only 0 ½ mm, to 20 mm, which can be used for writing on larger formats that require bolder strokes. The angle at which the pen is held and the height of the letters themselves depend on the rules for writing each font.

Scripts Copperplate, English Roundhand, Engrosser´s Script, Engraver´s Script, Madarasz or Spencerian request a pointed pen or English.: point penwhich splits when pressure is applied. With the right amount of pressure, this produces thin and wide lines, as increasing the pressure also increases the flow of paint. A slight upward stroke gives a thin line and a stronger downward stroke a broad line. Next to the pen you also need a suitable pen holder. For Roundhand and Copperplate we need a flat calligraphy holder, for others Calligraphic knee-holder or oblique penholder, to obtain the correct writing slant.

Calligraphic pen - Literas calligraphy

Calligraphic flexible pointed pen

Calligraphy pen can last longer if properly cleaned immediately after use to prevent rusting. A soft toothbrush and soapy water can help. Then dry it immediately with a kitchen paper towel. The use of the pen also depends on the ink or colour, and on what paper you are writing on. The ink weighs down the metal pen and takes the shine off it. It even burns into the nib a little, so cleaning immediately after use is very important.

Calligraphy handles - Literas calligraphy

Correct pen position in calligraphic handle - Peresnik.

When writing with a slanted grip, it is extremely important, that the handle is correctly shaped, as shown in the figure below. The tip of the pen should touch the apparent centre line of the handle. Unfortunately, the holder on the right side of the picture does not allow this, so I advise against it. The pen holder is closed on the other side, so the pen cannot be pushed in deep enough, which causes the pen to remain in the wrong position. You may save money in the beginning, but the incorrect position of the pen and the generally rigid shape of the grip slows down progress and can be painful to write with.

Of course, you could have chosen a shorter pen, but the Nikko G An exceptional quality calligraphy pen, perfect for beginners and experienced calligraphy enthusiasts alike. It is durable and very long-lasting.

Inks and colours

Popular use is Chinese or Japanese ink in sticksdissolved in water. You can also use bottled showers, but my favourite is Sumi ink, which is a little greasy or sticky compared to the others, but which is why it allows writing on slightly coarser paper.

Waterproof showers dry quickly already on the pen and consequently do not allow such sharp strokes on paper. Using calligraphy fountain pens is suitable for the beginner, as no soaking is required and the ink flows continuously. In recent years, popular gouache calligraphic inks (https://www.schmincke.de/en/products/gouache/calligraphy-gouache.html) and watercolour paints with a pearl or metallic effect, which can be in crystals, tubes or palettes (https://coliro.de/)

Calligraphic papers

There are many types of paper in the shops, but they are mostly for watercolour techniques rather than calligraphy. For rehearsals and drafts of the final product, the most suitable are Calligraphic papers in the block. Some are also thin enough to use a highlighter when writing. For the final work, the paper should be thicker, multi-gram paper, as it will not wrinkle and the surface of the paper will not be damaged by erasing lines when not in use. from.

You can also write to parchmentwhich was extracted from animal skins. They used goat, sheep, calf or donkey skins. Parchment was replaced by less durable papyrus. The parchment is still in use today by booksellers, restorers and Calligraphers.

Materials for gilding

Golden leaves are particularly attractive to calligraphers because they add a special luxury to calligraphic letters. That is why all these accessories are very important for calligraphic works with illuminated decoration. Gold for letter decoration comes in various forms. It can be in flakes or sheets, gold gouache, gold dust or shell gold.. It's definitely good to experiment with different materials, but for our serious products it's nice to use real 24 carat gold leaf. The price is, of course, correspondingly higher, but they are also easier to work with. Illumination also requires some additional tools such as a brush to remove excess gold and a polishing tool; this is a handle with agate or hematite.

Procurement of materials

You only need the basic tools to start calligraphy. With time and experience, purchase additional materials according to the style of calligraphy you want to master.

  • Calligraphic paper
  • Calligraphy pen
  • Calligraphic handle, straight or oblique
  • Calligraphic ink or colour

For drawing auxiliary lines:

  • Ravnila
  • Svichnik
  • Radirko

Once you understand the rules, you can replace line-drawing with online with a sharpie (e.g. guideline generator) or different templates prepared for different products, such as an A4 pencil or for a certain envelope size.

The art is in your hands

Calligraphy is an art that connects you to the past, but also allows you to create something unique in the present moment. With every stroke of the pen, you dive deeper into this magical world where the sky is the only limit.

I can say with certainty that calligraphy will not leave you indifferent, so you will want to try more and more techniques, which will also require more and more different materials. There is no specialised shop in Slovenia specifically for calligraphy. Art and hobby shops do have a few items, but in my experience they are also priced for the end consumer, i.e. for occasional writing.

Do not buy calligraphy sets, which have ink, a beautiful handle, a few nibs and even a drinking fountain, because these are the most expensive, but mostly for decorative purposes only. If you are more serious about calligraphy, I recommend shops where you can get an extra discount for larger quantities, or where their prices are a bit lower to begin with.

Digital calligraphy tools

Calligraphy is not behind the times. Works well with digital tools. It can be created in the traditional way and digitised later, or it can be created using digital tools. This is mainly used when the template is intended to be printed in multiple copies or transferred to larger formats. So you can have a vinyl lettering on your car. I use a combination of graphic design and digital calligraphy to create a beautiful inscription.

Calligraphy

Digital calligraphy, which requires the same rules, correct pressure exchange and inter-line relationships. Just like calligraphy on paper, I write it digitally using marker pens.

Why is writing important?

In the digital age, when everything is a click away, we often forget the importance of handwriting. Writing activates the brain, stimulates concentration and allows us to connect more deeply with words. In addition, handwritten words, written with heart and soul, can be therapeutic and liberating. Learning calligraphy is like a journey where every curve, every line and turn tells a story.

Before you dive into the world of shopping, make sure you know what you're looking for. Never underestimate the importance of research. Check out the different styles of calligraphy, research the pens needed for each style and, of course, ask about the prices of courses and literature.

Why learn calligraphy?

Learning calligraphy has many positive attributes and benefits that affect different aspects of our lives:

  1. Improving brain activity: Writing activates the brain, stimulates concentration and allows us to connect more deeply with words. By stimulating neural circuits, writing can increase cognitive function, creativity and problem-solving skills.
  2. Improving memory: Studies have shown that handwriting can improve memory and recall of information learned through note-taking. Engaging motor and cognitive processes helps to 'encode' and store information more efficiently than typing or reading.
  3. Personalisation of other projects: Calligraphy skills and handwriting practice can add a personal touch to your projects, notes and written texts. By developing your own style, you can create unique and memorable creations in your work or hobbies.
  4. Motor skills: Learning calligraphy and practising handwriting can improve your fine motor skills, eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity. These skills are important not only for writing but also for other tasks that require precision, such as drawing, painting or playing an instrument.
  5. Meditation: Practicing calligraphy and handwriting can be a meditative activity that promotes relaxation, mindfulness and concentration. If you concentrate on the strokes, shapes and rhythms of the letters, you can enter a state that calms your mind and reduces stress.
  6. Artistic expression: Calligraphy and handwriting can also be a form of artistic expression that allows you to explore your creativity, style and personality. Whether you prefer traditional calligraphy styles or modern handwriting trends, you can find a way to express yourself through the beautifully written word.

Calligraphy, ADHD and PTSD: Creative Therapy for Better Health

Learning calligraphy also has positive effects on children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Studies have shown that calligraphy improves attention, sensory-perceptual acuity, cognitive and rational abilities, emotional stability and self-control. Calligraphy practice can help children with ADHD to improve concentration and reduce hyperactivity. Calligraphy also has a therapeutic effect on children with PTSD, reducing symptoms of hyperactivity and improving overall emotional stability. You can read more about this in the following studies:

1.The purpose of the wedding tables:

Wedding signs are more than just decoration. They are a guide for your guests. They are used to:

  • Welcome: Greet your guests with a beautifully written welcome message that shows them how much their presence means to you.
  • Seating arrangements: Help guests find their space with elegantly written seating plans.
  • Menus: Write your wedding dinner menu in calligraphy and add a special touch to the dining experience.
  • Instructions and acknowledgements: Some boards may also include a thank-you note.
  • Photo corner is a popular attraction at many weddings, allowing guests to create fun and unique memories of their wedding celebrations.

The photo below shows a modern wedding chalkboard in clear acrylic, placed on an elegant wooden stand. The chalkboard reads "Photo Corner" in white stylised calligraphy, suggesting a special area for guests to take photos. The edge of the board is adorned with a beautifully arranged floral decoration in warm shades, with an emphasis on gold and sand.

This floral arrangement brings a feeling of warmth and luxury, while blending perfectly with the natural ambience in the background. The sunlight filtering through the trees adds a touch of magic to the whole scene. Wedding signs like this one not only guide the guests, but also complement the theme and aesthetics of the wedding decoration.

2. Variety of materials:

  • Acrylic translucent boards: The translucency of acrylic chalkboards is something truly special in the world of wedding decoration. These boards give the sensation of floating, as they appear almost imperceptible until the calligraphed message shines through. Most of the time, the font is white, which really comes out in all its power and beauty against the transparent background. When light passes through the boards, it creates a wonderful play of shadows and light that adds to the mysterious and dreamlike atmosphere. This effect can be further enhanced by adding candles or other lighting elements close to the board. This aesthetic effect is both sophisticated and bold, making acrylic translucent boards the ideal choice for those who want something different, fresh yet classically elegant.

  • Acrylic boards with coloured backing: If you want to add a splash of colour to your wedding, acrylic chalkboards with a coloured backing are perfect for you. The coloured backing can match perfectly with the other details of the wedding and the calligraphy will really stand out. We also often incorporate shiny pearl drops into the base, which act as little windows to the universe, inviting us to immerse ourselves in our own fairytale and let our imagination run wild.

Wedding inscriptions

  • Mirrors: The inscription on the mirror is the height of luxury, creating a sense of fairytale in any room. Guests will be amazed by their extraordinary beauty and will be delighted to use them as the perfect backdrop for their wedding photos.

  • Wood: For those who want a warmer and rustic atmosphere, there are wooden boards an excellent choice. Their natural texture and earthy tones, combined with a subtle touch of calligraphy, bring a sense of homeliness that blends seamlessly with tradition.

  • Non-traditional materials: For adventurous couples who want something really different, there are non-traditional materials such as window sashes or old car doors. Imagine how exciting it would be to see your name or wedding date in calligraphy on such a remarkable object!

2. The art of calligraphy:

Calligraphy is more than just beautiful writing. It is the dance of letters on paper or any other surface. Every stroke, every line is designed with intention and love. With LITERAS calligraphy, you can choose to handwrite directly on the board or choose digital calligraphy, which is then converted into foil lettering. This allows you to perfectly coordinate your signs with other printed materials and wedding day decorations.

3. After the wedding:

After the wedding, many couples are worried about where to go with the tables. If you don't want signage piling up in your home, renting is a great solution. However, if you decide to buy, you can use the boards as decoration in your home or as a memento of your special day. At a time when environmental responsibility is becoming more and more important, choosing wooden signs or renting acrylic signs allows you to avoid unnecessary waste. Acrylic boards, which are made of plastic materials, can be reused by renting them, reducing the impact on the environment while adding a sophisticated touch to the celebration.

Wedding signs and banners are more than just an addition to the decoration. They are part of your story, an expression of your personality and the love you share. At LITERAS for calligraphy we offer you the opportunity to elevate your wedding day with the art of calligraphy, which is sure to leave a lasting impression on everyone present. Let your love story come to life through beautiful handwriting and become something you will treasure forever.
